Anonymous asked: What is your favorite thing about each of your siblings?
Just one thing?! That’s so hard.
Riley is my #1 best friend, and he is so wise beyond his years. I always know I can go to him for help and expect an honest, loving answer.
Farryn is passionate. She does not tolerate any kind of injustice. It gets her into all kinds of trouble, but I really admire the way she stands up for what she believes in.
Willa Faith is so sensitive and sweet; she has the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met. She’s one of those kids who everyone wants to be friends with because she’s just so darn nice.
Declan is incredibly joyful and he always believes the best about people and life in general. The first time he meets you, you can guarantee he’ll run and jump into your arms for a hug. He is trusting, and I hope he keeps his joy and trust once he grows up.
I cannot speak highly enough of these kids.
Anonymous asked: Do you have a favorite Christmas tradition with your family?
My brothers + sisters and I have a “sibling Christmas song.”
It’s Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
A few years ago we made a very serious agreement that whenever we hear that song, no matter where we are, we all stop and have an intense dance party. Riley even participates enthusiastically, even though he’s 17 and 2cool4U.
The last time this happened we were in Kohls on Black Friday and people actually stopped to watch. But this has happened in doctor’s offices, the mall, and pretty much anywhere else you can think of.
It is utterly humiliating, but by far my favorite Christmas tradition. I love those kiddos.
You know my mother has really messed up when even sweet Connor is furious. I am in serious need of someone, anyone, to come over here so I can cuddle all of this anger and bitterness out.
Of course I’ll hurt you. Of course you’ll hurt me. Of course we will hurt each other. But this is the very condition of existence. To become spring, means accepting the risk of winter. To become presence, means accepting the risk of absence.
